Welcome to TEFL & TESOL courses in Greece

Course Content

The course is essentially practical in nature, is assessed continuously, and fully complies with all international standards for the regulation of the global TEFL industry (see Getting started: choosing a TEFL course). For a full detailed breakdown of the individual sessions, please see the ‘Course Outline’ page. The TEFL course involves 130-140 hours of tuition and includes 10 hours or real practical teaching practice. In the morning, there are input sessions on the skills and methods of teaching. The afternoon consists of teaching practice (in small groups), lesson observation and lesson preparation. The course is essentially divided into six areas:

Classroom Management

This topic includes classroom arrangement, managing, resource materials, maintaining discipline, giving instructions, the role of student and teacher etc.

Teaching skills

This is a very practical element of the course aimed at building the trainees skills in areas such as teaching grammar, vocabulary, business English, creating own materials, correction skills etc.

Language Awareness

This section of the course aims to consolidate the trainees knowledge of grammar and provide practical ideas as to how it can be taught.

Phonology

Focuses on areas such as pronunciation, stress, intonation, rhythm and the International Phonetic Alphabet.

Unknown Language

Candidates are put into the position of language students and will be taught an unknown foreign language. This gives candidates a chance to view lessons as a student and note techniques used by the teacher when teaching beginners. In Crete, unless a student already has prior knowledge of the language, we world normally use Greek.

Teaching Practice

The most practical and important element of the course. Trainees teach real students of English and put into practice the skills learnt on the course.
